Artist Statement:
In this series, I explore the dialogue between the organic and the digital. By merging cyanolumen printing, a process reliant on sunlight, organic matter and time, with the structured precision of a circuit board, I question our recent blurring of boundaries between the biological and digital.
Cyanolumen is an alternative analogue photographic process utilising silver gelatin paper coated in cyanotype solution, composed with plant matter and other organics and then exposed to the tropical sun. Each print is unique, a collaboration between artist and nature, intention and chance, sunlight and humidity.
The circuit board imagery represents precision and control, alluding to the systems that govern our digital lives but remain unseen.
With these works I question where we are heading, and our general passivity in the face of the brave new world in which we find ourselves, the fragility of memory, intention and action in our busy daily lives, and the increasingly blurred boundaries between the biological and the technological.
