Frida in pieces

Artist: Kim Boardman
Mediums: Ink and wood
Dimension: 31cm x 31cm x 4cm

Artist Statement:

As Iโ€™ve been learning to use a laser cutter and experimenting with ink and AI image generators, I found myself drawn to the idea of embracing โ€˜the glitch.โ€™ As AI software continues to evolve, these glitches may become less visibleโ€”ironically making AI more dangerous, not less. Glitches can show up as errors, misleading outputs, or even harmful consequences, affecting everything from scientific research to everyday use. The role of AI in creativity and education remains controversial and far from settled, yet it also offers a way for students to begin grappling with the uncertainties of the future. Creating a stencil of Frida Kahlo seemed straightforward at first, butโ€”like all of usโ€”even Frida had her glitches.
