Artist Statement:

I asked Chat GPT what would be the most popular artwork to make for an exhibition. After an in depth back and forth conversation with the AI, together we came to decide that creepy crawlies would be the least likely subject matter to be made for this exhibition. Sort of an Anti AI artwork using AI to decide.
Cane toads are a really big issue in the NT for the environment and wildlife. I love going on toad busts and catching them knowing I’m doing something to help. At the same time picking them up is like overcoming a small fear and discust each and every time.
Cockroaches are disgusting but they are also fragile and extremely robust at the same time. They can survive nuclear bombs apparently. And their heads look like Darth Vader.
I made artworks of different creepy crawlies but the cane toads and cockroaches came out the most interesting and in a strange way beautiful in the medium I’m using.
