Making Workshop

What you’ll do

  • Learn Japanese Kurinuki ceramic techniques.
  • Create ceramic pieces such as:
    • Yunomi (tea cup)
    • Vase
    • Sculpture
  • Learn different Kurinuki tools and techniques.
  • Create your own ceramic pieces.

Workshop details

  • Suitable for complete beginners with no prior clay experience.
  • Suitable for experienced ceramicists wishing to learn the Kurinuki method.
  • Includes time to explore various Kurinuki techniques and their practical applications.
  • Participants will create at least two hand-sized Kurinuki pieces to keep.
  • 2 ร— 4-hour sessions provide time for clay pieces to dry overnight, which is helpful when using Kurinuki techniques.

Followup Workshop… Basic Oxide and Glaze Workshop

Important

This workshop is only available to participants from the first workshop.

What you’ll learn

  • How to apply:
    • Basic oxide washes
    • Underglazes
    • Glazes
  • Techniques for finishing ceramic pieces.

Requirements

Participants must bring their own bisque-fired pieces ready for glazing.

Recommended:

  • 2โ€“4 hand-sized pieces
  • Or 1โ€“2 larger pieces

Firing information

  • Pieces will be fired to Cone 6.
  • This firing temperature, combined with glazing, produces pieces suitable for practical use, including:
    • Cups
    • Bowls
    • Vases

Finished pieces will be:

  • Dishwasher safe
  • Microwave safe
  • Oven safe

Cost: $30 each workshop= $60 making and firing workshops for AENT Members
