Artist Statement:
While experimenting with AI image generators for a project with my Year 8 class, I was amazed at how bizarre the bird results were. The AI really struggled to create accurate representations of Australian birds—even common ones like magpies and kookaburras looked odd, and forget about something as unique as a Gouldian finch! In the end, we decided to create still life ink paintings using real bird images as references. I especially love seeing the Save Lee Point bird art on fences around Darwin, and I was lucky enough to have a real one visit my garden.
