Collaborative Planning Day for Visual Arts Teachers
24 May, 2022 @ 8:15 am - 4:00 pm

Come and join Korin Lesh and Lucy Found from The Art Educators of the NT (AENT) to collaboratively plan a Visual Arts Unit/s to use in your classroom. We will connect with experts such as Kyle Neagle from The Art Gallery of South Australia and Robyn Carmody, ACARA Arts Curriculum Specialist. You will also have time to plan and document a Visual Arts learning sequence for your classroom.
Any teacher engaged with the Visual Arts curriculum is welcome to join us for a fun and productive day together. Each participant will take away a self created unit plan relevant to their classroom that is easy to implement and meets curriculum requirements.
• Audience: Visual Arts Educators, T-10 (including Primary Teachers).
• Strategic Intent: Implementing high-quality visual arts curriculum across the NT.
• Focus: Empowering classroom teachers by demystifying the complexity of Visual Arts programming.
• Materials: laptop, optional: any resources; programs/ units of work.
Participants will be supplied with a copy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art in the Classroom by Kyle Neagle (one of our key presenters!)
Education Coordinator Kylie Neagle, on behalf of AGSA Education will deliver a 90min online workshop about how to incorporate Works of Art into the classroom in an appropriate and meaningful way. She will share 4 tips for planning an art lesson and the ‘composition of an art lesson’ framework. Teachers will also learn best practice methods and practical tips on ways to integrate First Nations art, cultures and histories into daily learning environments based around the National Curriculum. This workshop will include a hands-on making activity responding to the work of Trawlwoolway artist Lola Greeno using AGSA’s ‘using artists as a starting point’ flowchart.
Robyn Carmody from ACARA will share with us “Curriculum is a code!” – how to unpack it – what does it all mean? What am I actually being asked to teach? She will apply practical examples to assist with our planning and programming using The Arts Curriculum and will have time for our questions.
Lunch and snacks will be provided. Email korin.lesh@education.nt.gov.au for special requirements
