Kamahi Djordon King – Camp Dog Sculpture Workshops
Kamahi’s artistic practice sits across visual arts, acting and singing. Born in Katherine, he began painting at a young age. His grandfather, a member of the Gurindji tribe born at Banka Banka, was his early mentor and teacher. This old man had travelled many miles mustering across the country, had strong kinship with the land and told Kamahi many stories about the desert. Drawing on his grandfather’s teaching, Kamahi successfully entwines his own unique style and images with other art styles taken from many locations and experiences.
Workshop overview
Kamahi’s workshop will take participants through his unique plaster sculpture practice, which utilises found material to create cheeky camp dog sculptures. The workshops will provide a basis of techniques which can then be applied to other animal forms or abstract sculpture. It is a good introduction to plaster / clay sculpture and will give teachers a great longer term project for their students to take on.
