My artwork explores the interplay of colour and music in the healing process. Just as music has the power to soothe our souls and lift our spirits, colours can evoke deep emotional responses and promote physical well-being. Through the harmonious combination of both, I seek to create a space for healing and renewal.

This painting depicts the gradual disappearance of a mother over time. As her children grow up and become independent, her once central role in their lives slowly fades away. The bright colors and bold strokes of the foreground represent the vibrancy and energy of youth, while the muted and blurred background signifies the fading presence of the mother. The empty space around her highlights her increasing isolation and loneliness.

I lived in a caravan on the edge of Katherine Golf Course for a short time after arriving in the Northern Territory in 1990. Outside our caravan window in the long grass was a flock of Gouldian finches- so incredibly rare at that time we held our breath as we watched them. They continued to be endangered for many years – until very recently! They arrived and thrived- breeding in great numbers near a dam in the northern suburbs that had been earmarked for redevelopment – an extension of the Muirhead suburb. Their numbers have increased and they can now be seen at dawn all the way down to Rapid Creek Bridge. It was as if they heard the call and magically appeared causing huge waves of joy throughout the birding and conservation communities. Tourists descended from all over the world to marvel at this beautiful site and their habitat is safe…for now.

These white breasted wood swallows roost high up in the casuarina trees round where I live. They are painted over a 1938 map of Darwin. So much has happened since 1938 when this map was drawn. Suburbs, car parks, roads, shopping centres, schools but still these little birds endure.

Golden Goddess is the love of glistened metallic paint and hand-detailed work to reflect a statue of a long ago era that lives on for eons. When I was at Art school, I learnt about the Americal landscape painter Georgia O’keefe. I loved her flower and skull paintings, and that she lived in a remote desert landscape where she could just paint and contemplate. I just wanted to be like her. I admired her sophisticated fashion sense and so i went and bought a black hat. Sometimes I think it was more about the black hat than the art.

These ammonites and prehistoric shellfish have been designed to hang and showcase air plants. Cephalopods and Tillandsias both lived in the Cretaceous Period (145-65 million years ago), so I wanted them to coexist despite being from sea and land. My family is fascinated by the diverse designs of these fossils. I have been experimenting with garden art and pushing the boundaries of the traditional terracotta pot, one of our most ancient forms of pottery.

After a recent trip to Victoria I was inspired to create an artwork that portrayed the flora and fauna native to the Grampian region. I chose to represent the Banksia and Yellow tailed Cockatoo in this artwork. I was particularly concerned with capturing the various textures of the two while creating space in my artwork.

Cycads have been on earth since the time of the dinosaurs.
They are ancient, and to me are an embodiment of strength and resilience.
This mixed media work was created using printmaking and photographic processes.
The detailed cycad element is a ghost print from a copper plate etching printed with Akua ink.
I later used the wet cyanotype process with added turmeric powder and a large fresh cycad leaf using the Darwin sun for the exposure.

After discovering how to utilise the long exposure setting on my phone camera, I haven’t been able to stop photographing running water, especially that in nature and waterfalls throughout QLD and NT. Every time I do, so I am taken back to the 90s with TLC’s song “Waterfalls” getting stuck on repeat in my head, as if it were unlocking a core teenage memory. I can’t remember where I left my keys, but I can remember the lyrics word for word.

These water colour and ink geometric animals are animals that are found in habitats along the Fleurieu Peninsula, which is my hometown. The Southern Right Whales migrate during winter months, usually to have offspring. Although in decline, little penguins can be found nesting in the granite coastal landmarks. I have a vivid memory of snorkeling off The Bluff in Encounter Bay during year 12 to be rather fortunate to spot a leafy sea dragon in the water.

I have interpreted the ‘Alter ego’ theme, with what is currently always on my mind, as being the other side of myself. My family have been going through a slow goodbye as we lose my Dad to dementia. In this portrait of me looking at and thinking about him, I have included the touch of death’s harsh reminder. Being on my shoulder instead of Dad’s represents the families love in-between Dad and the inevitable.
