Artist Statement:

In this digital image wanted to show how on the outside some people look fine but on the inside they might feel bad. I expressed this by having my character’s hands raised to her face, swirling in a black void and with shapes like hands coming to get her. I used blue and red to contrast aiming to make the viewing feel uneasy. Its a feeling we all have at some stage in our lives.

This simple Lino Print was a study of line and shape. I mass produced this print on many colours to study the effect colour has on an image. The inspiration for the image came from a family photograph of my sister and I in an embrace when we were younger. Family are so important to me and I wanted to play with line, shape and colour to test those elements for future artworks.

As a young child I fly in planes with my father and admired the sky. It always felt free and beautiful flying so high above everything. This artwork is one of three images that show the beauty of the sky from a different perspectives. Using pencil on drafting film allows me to gain the detail and transparency or softness that flying in the sky provides.

This Lino Print shows the imperfections of a woman’s body as perceived by the media. The rolls and marks on her body are shown by enhancing the carvings and colours in those areas. The black of the underwear was chosen to sink those areas back into the background to accentuate the features of the body more rather than place importance on the clothing. The message is a simple one, young females’ should celebrate their shape and not judge it.

This digital print is inspired by the magical creature called the Phoenix. It is a made up creature that resembles an eagle-like bird somewhat on fire. During the creation of this digital print I made choices of adding yellow highlights to the lower feathers on the wings, tail and crest. The use of shading allowed me to detail, I ensured the scale was correct.

I love fishing, it allows me time to think and to appreciate the beauty of the bush. When trying Mono Printing for the first time it was obvious to me to use the inspiration of the Barramundi as my image source.

I used this study of a King Fisher to learn about the reduction method of Lino Printing. I was inspired by Picasso and his use of Lino Printing techniques to show shape, colour and line. Every time I go fishing I see these beautiful little birds and so wanted to use the lines and shapes I see as inspiration for this study.

Using watercolour I challenged myself to capture the feeling we all get when we look at the Darwin skies right at the point when the sun goes down. Using watercolour to capture the highlights I wanted also to show the beautiful blends that heal your soul.

Darwie is a much loved family member. I focused on mapping the eyes, face and then detailing the textures to show how this crazy cat makes my life so much fun. This is one of a series of drawings that show a day in the life of Darwie.

This drawing comes from one of the first photos I ever took of my dog Reggie. My goal was to practice drawing a dog while incorporating as much tone and texture as I could. The tongue and the collar were a challenge. My favourite part of the drawing is the eyes. Eyes tell the story of personality and Reggie has a fun-loving personality so I used highlights to aim to show that.

My work is about a horse and a word saying, “ride like the wind”. This writing fits with the horse because it means ride wild and free or ride it like you stole it. The horse in a jumping action represents it being wild and do what it wants. My artwork is sprayed onto cartridge paper. What this artwork means to me is ride like there’s no tomorrow, have fun, be wild and free. This artwork was inspired by horses, they inspire me because they are silly, cheeky, wild and free. My artwork doesn’t really express an issue more a saying or telling people to let go and just do it. My goals as an artist are to try and keep trying new designs or drawings and don’t give up on them. I want to learn more stuff with art and how to do more like, overlapping, no overspray, more detail, a clear sketch or art piece. My artwork helped me get closer to my goals and keep trying. My artwork taught me to try new things, combine colours, how to have no overspray and a 3-layer stencil. Yes, the image is what I imaged a horse and saying underneath it with no overspray or too much spray paint.

My artwork is called Wonder with my subject being about understanding another person which is why I choose a phoenix to represent my artwork.
I used scalpels A4 and A3 paper with the colours yellow, orange and red witch reminds me of fire.
I found birds a nice inspiration since it could represent freedom so the issue, I’m trying to express is about the people who feel trapped because of family or other issues and can’t express themselves.
So, my goal is to show others that they don’t have to keep silent they can express who they are without worrying about what others may think. So, there is hope for a better future.
Finlay my artwork came out how I imagined. I think this artwork can help influence other artworks on different social issues.

It’s a picture of a lion and the words BE STRONG. This artwork is made from stencils and spray paint. My message was that everyone should be strong. My goal was to make a lion as symbol that everyone would relate to. My thoughts about the artwork are that the colours work really well.

My artwork contains a dog in ‘heaven’ with clouds around it, and also has words that say, “no more Abuse”. I made my artwork using an A3 piece of paper, 6 personalised stencils and spray cans. I saw this video awhile ago of a dog being beaten and burned alive and it was horrendous, so this piece spreads awareness that we should not accept abuse to animals.

My artwork is a wolf with the words “wild ” sprayed underneath it. I started making my spray by printing out three copies of a wolf image. Then I grabbed a highlighter, and I highlighted all the areas I was going to cut out and spray different colours. After this I labelled each page the colour I would spray them, I choose dark purple, light purple, dark pink, neon pink, dark blue and light blue. Then I designed my words by using a stencil cutter printer to type out Wild & Wise that aim to communicate that we should be wise but also have some fun. Making this artwork was a challenging and frustrating experience to get it right.
